Locked In or Out?
Have you ever found yourself locked out of your house or your car? I have never locked myself out of our house, but twice locked my keys in my car. A few months ago, I managed to lock us out of our son‘s car while he was visiting us for a while. His key fob only allowed him to start the car once inside, with his car telling him low key fob battery. It sounded like a battery change was needed to me.
Since we had a package of the correct size battery, I replaced it, being certain to place it in the same position. The key fob not only refused to open the car door as before, the alarm system went off when we used the emergency key to open the door. The car refused to even start. I insisted for two days that I installed the battery correctly, so we researched ideas. A call to a dealer for help resulted in a lengthy wait to have it towed for testing. My husband finally decided to take the battery out (while I was at work) and turn it over in the fob. Not only did the fob start the car, it unlocked it remotely and started the car remotely.
Despite my belief that I had correctly connected that small battery, I was proven wrong. I began to think of my bible reading time and the days that I am not able to feel connected to the passages. It is so easy to allow my mind to wander off to other topics. Other days I feel that every word speaks volumes to me and I quickly write a page of notes. I realized my mind simply needs to have a correctly placed battery. Then my brain’s key fob can better understand God’s words. I need a way to make sure God can speak to me clearly. Jesus told us how this would take place.
”But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 NIV
Another comparison recently came to my mind. If you have a bank safety deposit box, your own key and a bank key is needed to open the box. Without the bank’s key, I would be unable to use my own key. But with both in place, I have access to anything I save in the box. I realized I need to allow God to use His key to give my key access to the Holy Spirit’s presence so I can understand the words Jesus taught us. After all, God’s key is always in place, ready and waiting for me to use my key to access His words. My key is to pray and be ready to respond to his guidance through His word.
Father God, guide me each day to use my key to access your Spirit as I read. Lead me to see what Jesus wants me to learn each day. Help me stay locked in to your word. Thank you for your love, protection and direction. Amen
