“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
What does it mean to feel safe? As children, we ran to an adult when we were scared. Now, the thought of facing what frightens us can sometimes seem overwhelming. Thankfully, we have the promise of this powerful verse.
When we face life’s hardships, it’s easy to feel alone. Sometimes it’s even hard to feel the Lord’s presence at all. In these moments, we need to cling to God’s promise that He goes before us and will always be with us.
When you are in the valley, know that God is with you. Take heart in knowing He has promised to never leave you. Whisper Deuteronomy 31:8 to your heart, and know that whatever you’re facing, God knew it was coming and has promised not to leave you.
In the hardships, God will show you beautiful things if you turn to Him. Take this time to reflect on God’s promises to you. God uses the scary things in our lives to refine us and draw us close to Him.
The Lord Himself is walking before you and will guide your every step if you put your worries and fears at the foot of the cross. But what does that look like?
When we are scared and feel helpless in a situation, there are things we can do to calm our spirits. Turn to the Lord daily and walk closely with Him. Open your Bible and spend time in the Word. God will reveal Scripture confirming how much He loves you and that He is there beside you.
Spend time in prayer and write down your requests to the Lord so you can recall them specifically when He answers them. Surround yourself with wise, godly counsel so they will continually point you back to your Creator.
God’s got this. He will walk with you. You do not need to be afraid.
Lord, Your Word tells us that You will never leave us. Thank You that we don’t have to be afraid or discouraged, because we know that You go before us.
