Faith in the Reflection by Tecia Janes

The twinkling ripple of a reflecting pond is absolutely captivating. It reveals things our eyes would never otherwise be able to see, bringing together what is in front of us with what is beyond our view.

Grief is like that.

We feel the weight of loss in what we can see right in front of us. We ask the “why” and the “how,” trying to make sense of what was and what is, and sometimes it can all feel so meaningless. The future feels limited to what we see in the present, and it is heavy, painful, and uncertain.

And yet, even in that heaviness, something deeper is at work.

There is beauty in time. Does time heal all things? No, but God can and does. In His perfect time and in His perfect way, as we lean into Him, He reveals pieces of Himself within our circumstances. He gives us something greater than we could have ever asked, Himself.

The reflecting pond feels so similar to this journey, learning to trust as the images slowly come together. Surrendering to what we only know in part, believing that one day we will know in full, as the past, present, and future all combine to reflect His glory.

This feels especially real to me today.

Thirty-five years ago today, our father, Matt Farmer, met his Maker and his Savior. It was the day his faith became sight. We miss him, and Mom, so very much. Our hearts still ache for them both.

There are angles of my journey where I have seen God so clearly. And there are still curves where I am waiting to see what is ahead.

But I am learning how to do hard well, trusting that I do not hold all the pieces. Even here, I can see how the Lord has used the pain for His glory in our lives and in the lives of our children.

If you are staring at your own reflecting pond, looking for the past and present to somehow fit into the future, let me encourage you today.

There is purpose in your story. There is meaning in our struggles, and God will not waste one single minute of your witness as you release your journey to Him.

He is with us through it all, and one day, we will see in full what we cannot make sense of today.

His will. His way. His timing.
