I love sitting at the beach and watching the ocean. It’s one of my favorite things to do on vacation. Last week, a tropical storm made for an incredibly windy day at the beach. As I watched the waves, I noticed a seagull gliding effortlessly through the air. For nearly five minutes, it didn’t flap its wings once. It simply rode the wind.

Nature has always fascinated me. As I watched that bird, I wondered how much courage it must take for a young bird to learn to fly. No one tells it when to jump from the nest or explains how to spread its wings. Its mother can’t reassure it that everything will be okay. Yet somehow, it knows. God placed that instinct within it long before it was born. The bird fulfills part of its purpose when it finally takes that first leap.

It made me wonder: What purpose has God wired into your soul that requires you to take a step of faith?

God has uniquely gifted each of us with talents, abilities, and passions that He intends to use for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom.

Part of our journey is discovering those gifts, developing them, and faithfully using them to point others to Christ.

Everything you’re good at can be used by God. Whether it’s a practical skill like woodworking or a gift that builds up hearts, like encouragement, every talent has eternal value when surrendered to Him. Listen to the Holy Spirit as He leads you. Continue to grow in the gifts He has entrusted to you. And when He calls you to step out in faith, don’t let fear keep you in the nest.

Every one of us has a purpose in God’s kingdom. He created you intentionally, gifted you uniquely, and prepared good works specifically for you. So trust Him, spread your wings, and take the leap. You may discover that the One who called you is also the One who carries you.
