As we start this new year, do you find yourself wondering what’s in store for you or how God wants to use you? Whether you are a fan of New Year’s resolutions or not, I have learned it’s a great time for me to personally reflect on the coming year and prayerfully choose a word or phrase that will draw me closer to the Lord. I encourage each of you to think through this as well. Maybe it’s not for the entire year, but instead an intentional time for you to go before the Lord and ask, “Where can I grow or be stretched in this season?” This year for me, it’s FOLLOW THROUGH.
God gives us all dreams and goals. There are times in life when it’s easy to give up or grow defeated when we can’t see the progress of these goals and dreams. This is when our faith and determination must come in. If God has given you a dream, a goal, or a direction, then I encourage you to follow through as well. 1 Corinthians 9:24–25 is a great encouragement for this:
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. (NIV)
Jesus shows us it’s not simply about starting the race, but finishing it to “get the prize.” What prize has God laid on your heart? Where does the “strict training” come into play for you to reach this prize? Some of our “crowns” or “prizes” won’t be seen until Heaven, but I believe we will see some during our lifetime on earth. Let’s all take a moment to truly go before the Lord and ask where we need to follow through with something He has already asked us to do.
Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for the opportunities to take time to reflect and pray about where You have me in life. Right now, I pray for the “prize” _______________. First, thank You for this prize. Thank You for trusting me with it. Now, let me follow through by pursuing YOU to reach this prize.
In Jesus’ name,
